What We Do...
Vice Versa Photo

We specialize in the following areas:

Additions
Any square footage that is added as a property improvement (i.e. garage, second floor, bump-out kitchen or living area, etc) is usually considered an addition. Our design team specializes in this area. Additions almost always require a permit and an approved set of plans before building.  We can work to provide this service for you..  See examples...

Bathroom Remodeling
Bathroom remodeling can, again, range from simply upgrading fixtures (i.e. sinks, faucets, toilets, etc) to gutting entire areas and transforming the space with all new materials.  This can involve reconfiguring wall locations, installing new rough-in plumbing, and installing new electrical components.  It can also mean installing proper waterproofing materials and coordinating an endless array of new tile, stone, cabinet, and custom tub or shower enclosures to meet your new architectural vision.  See examples...

Custom Cabinetry
Vice Versa strives to provide the most cost effective solutions to your cabinet projects.  In many cases this means selecting a production line or semi-custom cabinet that can be specified to fit your kitchen or bath by our team of dedicated design professionals.  Production cabinets or semi-custom cabinets are usually manufactured by independent vendors in specific stock sizes. These stock sizes, are in turn, designed by us to fit together to form a cohesive cabinet installation in your home. However, library, study, basement bar, and basement cabinets sometimes call for unique design solutions of which stock sizes just aren’t available as pre-manufactured.  No worries. At Vice Versa, we have the design ability, experience, and tools necessary to make these types of custom cabinetry solutions a reality in your house.  See examples...

Decks & Porches
Decks and Porches are the exterior square footage of a home that can really extend the livability of a dwelling.  Decks allow for family and friends to gather outside and to enjoy nice weather and barbeque cookouts. Alternatively, porches make for excellent transition spaces between the exterior and interior of a home. Decks are usually built from stone, steel, or wood (or a combination of all three) and are elevated above grade.  When engineered properly, they can reach heights greater than the house roof line in the form of a widow’s walk. Bear in mind that any deck that is 30” or more above grade is required by code to have a railing detail built for safety and any set of steps that are more than 4 risers high require a fixed railing to grab for safety.  Decks are usually open air structures. However they can be designed with a roof structure overhead (i.e. gazebo) in order to protect from wind, rain, and snow.  They can also be screened in order to protect from insects.  Decks are generally, by nature, unconditioned spaces (no central cooling, heating, or humidity control), but can be converted to “three season” rooms when windows and doors are specified. This way they can be enjoyed in all but the harshest of weather conditions.  Decking material choices are abundant with the advent of composites (wood and plastic structural blends) and PVC, but Vice Versa can help you navigate the material choices and find a decking that bests meets your specific design and budget goals.  See examples...

Excavation & Demolition
This is work that requires the removal, relocation, or disposal of earth or existing construction materials. Vice Versa is very experienced with properly phasing demolition and excavation to meet the demands of residential remodeling projects.  We know the importance of proper site management, foundation work, site drainage and can usually achieve this with minimal disruption to your lot.  See examples...

Exterior Trim
Many of the same material choices and installation methods apply for exterior trim as they do for interior.  However careful attention must be paid to design details and material choices in order to maximize weather ability and, thus, longevity of your homes exterior trim.  We are experts at helping you choose the proper materials for your homes exterior.  We know how to integrate strong design details with proper flashing techniques in order to allow your homes exterior trim to look great for many years to come.  See examples...

Foundation
Any part of a building which is below the surface of the ground and on which the superstructure rests, is called the foundation. Commonly used foundation materials are poured in place concrete, concrete masonry units (CMU’s or “blocks”), brick, and stone 1.  See examples...

Framing
This term usually applies to the assembly of wood and/or metal structural elements that form the superstructure of a home or building.  See examples...

Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood flooring is the finished wood material that you walk on in your home. It is installed over the structural joists and structural sub-floor your homes floor system.  Hardwood flooring comes in both unfinished and pre-finished materials. The array of material choices is almost endless.  Unfinished options are usually sanded and finished on site and can pose unique dust control and accessibility issues for an occupied home.  Occupants usually have to wait 4-6 hours (and sometimes days depending on the finish used) to walk on finished floor. Pre-finished options are more occupant friendly and avoid most of the dust and odors associated with a finished-in-place option. They can be used as soon as they are installed. Vice Versa is very experienced with both types of hardwood floor installations.  We monitor for proper relative humidity within your home and check for proper moisture content of the structural floor as well as finished material that is being installed. We also work with a special team of flooring specialists to help you choose the right wood flooring material for both your design and budget goals.  See examples...

Interior Trim
These are moldings that give your home its finished look around floors, walls, doors, ceilings, and windows.  Moldings can be painted or stained.  Stained grade moldings are generally more expensive than paint grade installations. This is due to the fact that stain grade moldings use premium grades of wood that show through the finish.  Also stain grade finishing itself can be more time consuming to apply than paint.  We’ve completed stain grade finishes designed to match existing fixtures that have called for an 8 step finishing process! Options for interior trim material can be wood for base, door & window casings, or metal extrusions such as aluminum angle or channel for structural and ultra modern detailing.  Also available are a wide variety of urethane moldings that allow ornate or “built up” molding options that are more cost effective than using wood or plaster. We have experience installing almost every type of trim moldings. Chances are that if we can find it, we can install it.  See examples...

Kitchen Remodeling
Kitchens have evolved to becoming the heart of the house---and we know how to make the heart beat. Remodeling a kitchen can be as simple as adding a new sink or faucet; or as involved as gutting an entire existing one. This may include moving walls, fixtures, cabinet and appliance locations. Our gallery of kitchen photos shows a wide range of design options which can be expanded and limited only by your imagination.  See examples...

Masonry
This is work done by skilled masons working with stone, precast masonry elements, or brick. This work can be incorporated into both the foundation and finish (i.e. fireplace surrounds) phases of a project.  See examples...

Renovations
Sometimes called a “makeover”, this term applies to the art of working with a home’s problematic or dilapidated aspects and improving it with new architectural features, updated code measures, and new materials. A set of construction plans or permits are not always necessary for a renovation. Vice Versa would be glad to discuss with you which aspects of your renovation plans require permits and which ones do not.  See examples...

Tiling
Tiling usually refers to the installation of a stone, glass, ceramic or porcelain based unit applied to a structural (and many times moisture proof) substrate.  This can be a “dry” installation such as a kitchen wall backsplash or bathroom wall wainscoting or a “wet” installation such as a patio, countertop or shower.  Tiling can apply to both interior and exterior areas of a home.  Special expansion & contraction, structural, and waterproofing details should be considered for every job.  We are experienced tile setters and are certified by Schluter Systems for completing the Schluter-System Innovation Workshop at the Ceramic Tile Education Foundation.  This workshop focuses specifically on uncoupling membrane, floor drains, edge, and waterproofing details for tile—all critical areas of a professional tiling job.  See examples...

Walkways and Patios
Walkways and Patios are sometimes called the  “hardscaping” elements of a home’s site.  These elements can be made from concrete, natural and man-made (cultured) stone, brick, as well as wood.  Since these elements are usually ground contact they must be chosen and installed in such a way as to withstand the elements of sun, ice, snow, and rain. Exterior gathering spaces and circulation paths should be safe, user friendly, and durable.  They must also be carefully integrated as to not introduce unwarranted water or moisture into your home’s foundation or basement.  See examples...
